1. Topic-
Reader's Theater - Responsive Literature
 
2. Content-
Reader's Theater, is a lesson based upon the subject matter being discussed this week. It allows the students to psychically act out a skit or play on the subject. This will help the students learn the information by involving all their senses.
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Practice English Language
2.Promote team work, and mutual understanding.
3.Allows students to learn in a helpful environment with out the pressures of stereo typical thoughts or premises.
 
4. Objectives-
1.Allow students to learn and understand English in a fun way.
2.Students learn by involving all of their senses.
3.Help the students understand all aspects of the English language.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
A current age appropriate play or skit. Current text book to help the students with sentence structure and context. pens, pencils, colored pencils, costumes. A movie or video based on the play or skit. Pictures, posters, and any relevant information offered up by the students own research.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Students will focus on their role in the play.
2.Will do pre research before the play to help with understanding of the character.
3.Group discussion before, during, and after the play.
 

B. Development-

1.Will show a video on short plays that students their age have done.
2.Will get into groups and discuss what and how a play is done.
3.Will demonstrate a play with a few volunteers from student who may have previous knowledge of subject matter.
 

C. Practice-

1.Students will do own research, and information gathering.
2.Will allow students to use Internet and or helpful visual aides to assess their character role in the play.
3.Will sit down in whole class group and discuss their information and ideas on how to proceed from that point in time.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Assign students to research their character by any means necessary for the play.
2.Have them write out short essay explaining a bit about their character and points of interest.
3.have them work in the library at school and assess each individual by talking to them each during that study period.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.With provide what ever help necessary to those students who need it.
2.Will have a secondary assignment if student is struggling with a certain point of the assignment.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1.After class everyday will sit the students down for quick review and questions if they have any.
2.Leave them every available opportunity to ask me at any time any questions they may have.
3.Have them turn in the quick essay on their character they chose half way before it the play is going to be done.
 

G. Closure-

1.At the start of the play I will ask any student if they need help or more time to finish their work before we actually act the play or skit out.
2.After the play or skit I will sit down with all my students and ask them questions about each of their character's and if they understand what they where discussing in the play.
 
7. Evaluation-
1.Assess each student during the whole process of the play, ask question and correct where necessary.
2.Give my students feed back on what they need to work on or understand. Allow my students the time necessary to come to the understanding of what was wrong and how to correct it.
 
8. Teacher Reflection-
My assessment will vary on the students I am working with as well as what age group I am teaching. This grade I would evaluate my students on how they spoke and what the information they researched.
