3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Students will be able to explain the differences of dark romantics and romantics.
2.Students will be able to explain the nature of transcendentalism.
3.Students will examine themselves and investigate whether they are a classic or romantic thinker.
 
4. Objectives-
1.Students will understand the relations of romantics and transcendentalist to their literary works.
2.Students will be able to write poems in either form of literature.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Classic and Romantic list handout.
"Hills Like White Elephants" poem hand out.
Study guide.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Introduce Romanticism key aspects and main authors.
2.Introduce Transcendentalism key aspects and main authors.
 

B. Development-

1.Explain difference of romantics and dark romantics.
2.Explain the external and internal forces against transcendentalist.
3.Explain the difference of classical and romantic thinking using handout.
 

C. Practice-

1.Students will make a group poster of romantics, dark romantics, and transcendentalist.
2.As a class, read "Hills Like White Elephants" and begin to interpret the meaning of the poem.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Students will write a poem as a romantic or transcendentalist.
2.Students will write a short review of their thoughts on "The Hills Like White Elephants" poem as well as examples of figurative language.
3.Students will write a short paragraph on whether they are a romantic and classic thinker with supported details.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

If the students have little or no prior knowledge of figurative language, I will go over them.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Oral questions to quickly check for understanding.
2.I will read the students reflections in Independent Practice to check for understanding.
 

G. Closure-

1.Give a study guide and check a few questions for accuracy to encourage students to do homework accurately.
2.A quiz over all the material covered.
 
7. Evaluation-
Give a short survey on how I taught the material, how they received it, and how the assignments worked to accomplish our goals.
 
8. Teacher Reflection-
After reading the surveys, I will take notes for future lesson plans, and make changes as needed.
