1. Using role-play and imagination to write the journal
2. clear understanding about the characters in the novel
3. Understanding the role we play in our very own society |

5. Materials and Aids-
|
Watch a video that comes close to a utopian society like The Giver. |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Ask the students why type of journal entries they have written.
2.Tell them what a simulated journal writing is all about
3.Tell the students that writing a simulated journal is like playing
pretending as being someone else |

B. Development-
1. Students would have finished reading the novel
2.Students will use the information presented in the book to help
3. show and example of a simulated journal looks like by making one
myself |

C. Practice-
1.Students will practice writing and entry
2. They will write a three sentence paragraph pretending to be another
student in the classroom
3.answer any questions they may have |

D. Independent Practice-
1.They will choose a character by pulling it out of a pool
2. They will use their books to help them with creating their character
3. Use collaborative group work to each other. |

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1. Below the grade level, will write 4 sentences per page

3.above grade level, will write in detail everyday life, using near
to realistic events |

F. Checking for understanding-
1. The final draft of the journal piece which contains 5 to 10 entries
are complete.
2. A multiple choice with 3 essay questions exam will be given at
the end about the novel

1. How did they feel about writing a journal as someone else.
2. What did the think about the world that Jonas lives compare to
their own |
