What is the theme of a story?
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Children will recognize the the plot-is a series of events that happen during the story.
2.Children will recognize that the theme-is the main idea of the story.
 
4. Objectives-
1.Students when asked should be able to correctly identify the plot of the story.
2.students when asked should be able to correctly identify the theme of the story.

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Ask the question-What is the plot of this story?
2.Ask the question-What is the theme of the story?
3.Let's read the story and find out if that is the correct plot and theme.
 

B. Development-

1.Discuss after reading the plot is the series of events that happen during the storm.
2.Discuss after reading the theme is the importance of helping each other during a storm.
 

C. Practice-

1.Have children go back to the book and find supportive text for the plot and for the theme.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Go over worksheet instructions
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.Allow for nondependent learners to join you at the group work table to complete the work sheet as a group effort.

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Ask if anyone has any questions before they begin working.
 

G. Closure-

1.Ask that when finished with worksheet they turn them in on the overhead
2.Then go to designated stations

2.Call over any student who did not understand the lesson to the group table to work with you to complete and understand the lesson..
