|
After reading "The Family Garden," students will be able to produce
a flow map showing the story's sequence of events.

Phonics Library student books, Strategies worksheet, Avervision,
projector |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1. Review genre: Realistic Fiction
2. Review strategy: Monitor/Clarify
3. Review strategy: Sequence of Events
4. "Raise your hand if you've ever been in a real garden. Today's
story will take place in a backyard garden." |

B. Development-
1. Predict/Infer: "What do you expect the author to show us in this
story?" Discuss.
2. Read the story together. Stop every couple of pages for students
to monitor/clarify.
3. Point out transition words used by the author: finally, after,
then, and now. |

C. Practice-
Students will create their own flow map of the sequence of events
while the teacher demonstrates.

D. Independent Practice-
1. Using their flow map, students will pair up with a partner and
summarize/retell the story.
2. If time permits, students will partner read the story. |
