1. Write a summer poem
2. Be able to list 4 styles of poetry writing
3. Speak clearly and confidently when reading to partner |

4. Objectives-
|
1. Accurately write in poem style selected
2. Correctly explain their chosen style of poetry
3. Little to no grammatical errors |

5. Materials and Aids-
|
Computer, Promethean board, Summer writing paper, Prezi presentation,
summer crossword puzzle, post-it note, pencil, colored pencils (if
desired) |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1. Summer is right around the corner
2. Have you worked on writing any poems this year?
3. Can you name a few styles of poems? |
|
|
B. Development-
1. Begin Prezi presentation of Summer Poetry
2. Give some summer poem examples
3. Explain they will write a similar poem
4. Introduce poem structures (4) |

|
C. Practice-
1. Go back to poems and guess their style structure
2. Brainstorm summer type words
3. Give poetry directions |
|
|
D. Independent Practice-
1. Choose poem style
2. Write poem on lined paper
3. Title it
4. Draw a small picture of desired
5. If done early, crossword puzzle
6. Share poem with a partner

|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1. Key summer words on the board for students
2. If a student cannot choose a style, I can help them
3. Students who need a challenge may use a style structure not listed,
but must tell me about it first
4. Crossword puzzle for those quick workers |
