1. Topic-
2. Content-
What is poetry? How do you write and perform poetry? |
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
My goal is to have the kids be able to express, write and perform
their own poetry and learn new performance skills for future preferences |
4. Objectives-
1. Teach kids what poetry is
2. Have kids be able to write their own poems
3. teach kids performance skills and enable them to perform their
poems |
5. Materials and Aids-
1. Pencils
2. Paper
3. Poem samples` |
6. Procedures/Methods-
A. Introduction-
Ask questions about poetry for the first couple of minutes and gather
information of the children's knowledge of poetry |
B. Development-
Explain to them what poetry is and read a couple of sample poetry
for them to have an auditory and visual aid - for 5 minutes |
C. Practice-
Have the children get into groups of 2-3 where they can start their
own poems.they can start with 1. writing a brief paragraph on a topic
and then revising it to transform into poem of 5-10 lines or 1-2 stanzas
or 2. they can make a WEB Venn diagram to group their ideas and turn
it into a poem of 5-10 line or 1-2 stanzas. - for 10 minutes |
D. Independent Practice-
As a whole, I'll teach the children performance skills like memorization,
rate, tone, and volume. In groups I'll have them practice their poems
and perform it to me 3 times. Each time with improvement. - 10 minutes |
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
If a student has a physical disability I will have him/her be the
"narrator" or introduction for the performance night. Also, if a student
does not speak English as their first language I will try to have
someone translate or if not, have them be "gestures" for poems on
the performance night. |
F. Checking for understanding-
At the end of the day,I'll ask reflection questions on what they
learned and have them take a quick survey |
G. Closure-
To wrap things up I'll make sure to remind the kids of what they
learned that day and to work on their poems occasionally until the
next time I see them |
7. Evaluation-
To measure the progress of where the students are at I'll be asking
questions and hand out a brief survey to evaluate their understanding
of what I'm teaching them |
8. Teacher Reflection-
1. Rate yourself 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, on how you did today
teaching the kids
2. How will you improve for the next week? |
