Guided Reading book, The Dancing Dragon
Vocabulary: Cymbals, clang, gongs, kin, noise, whirl, costumes, text, infer, outside source
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
Standard 13.3 (8.6;8.9) Students will use schema and text features to (ask questions and) make predictions about the content of a nonfiction text.
4. Objectives-
1.Students will read their guided reading books independently during Just Right Reading
2.Students will write down questions they might ask themselves while reading on a graphic organizer or post-it.
5. Materials and Aids-
6 Copies The Dancing Dragon for guided reading group, post-its, graphic organizer, class chart about asking questions.
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Inform students that they are going to be the teachers/leaders at the end of reader's workshop.
2. Identify those who would like to share.

B. Development-

1.Review class chart of asking questions when reading.
2.Review with students the two options for recording questions when reading.
3.Review the three categories of discovering answers to their questions. (text,infer,outside source)
Identify cue's on each table and organizer sheets.

C. Practice-

1.Students will record questions while reading and respond to where they discovered their answer on a graphic organizer or post-it.
2.Students will convene at meeting to share with each other their questions and source for discovering the answers.

D. Independent Practice-

1.Graphic organizer worksheet or post-its.
2.Students partner or share with whole group

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.Provide graphic organizer worksheet.
2.Provide post-its to organize information.
3.small group/ 1:1 instruction

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Teacher/student conference and observation
2.Reading response worksheet
3.Whole class sharing discussion.

G. Closure-

1.Have student leaders review the 3 forms of discovering answers to questions when reading.
2.Respond to any last questions
