Editorial Articles
2. Content-
My class will learn how to dissect and write editorials based on higher-level, thought-provoking questions.
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Students will interact,
collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a
variety of digital environments and media.
2.Students will communicate information and ideas effectively to
multiple audiences using a variety of media and formats.
3. Students will develop cultural understanding and global awareness by
engaging with learners of other cultures.
4. Students will contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems.
4. Objectives-
1.Students will learn how
to search for editorial articles from different newspapers across the
country and world via the Internet.
2.Students will use Microsoft Word to type a persuasive and informative paragraph to tell their parents what they are learning.
3. Students will search editorials from another country, then write a critique to see if it fits pre-established criteria for persuasive article.
5. Materials and Aids-
desktop computers, PowerPoint presentations, online editorial pages, persuasive article webquest
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. I will begin with a power point presentation explaining the criteria of what makes a good persuasive article.
2. I will then show them different editorial pages online from various newspapers and illustrate the differences.
3. I will use two different videos to drive home the point of how to write a persuasive editorial article.
4. I will use another power point document to ensure proper use of grammar, punctuation and spelling.

B. Development-

1. I will illustrate the author's purpose,key ideas and supporting details to summarize the important aspects of the editorial.

C. Practice-

1. Go to computer lab and monitor each student while they look up an online editorial article
2. Aid students as they type an explanation to their parents explaining what persuasive and informative articles really are.
3. Analyze each students persuasive article after they type their article in class

D. Independent Practice-

1. Take paragraphs home and retype them based on feedback from my analysis and peer review

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Bring a paraeducator into the classroom to work with those students I have identified on a fourth grade reading level.
2. Submit lesson plan to the learning disabilities coordinator to ensure the students understand the process.

F. Checking for understanding-

Require students select another topic and type another persuasive article on their own using everything they have learned in the class.

G. Closure-

Give test over key terms and steps to creating the ideal persuasive article.
7. Evaluation-
Grade tests for each student and go over in class the results to make sure they got the lesson.
8. Teacher Reflection-
I needed to make sure that I called each parent to let them know about the persuasive unit we are studying. I should have also sent home a document for parents to sign pledging to help their students with homework assignments I sent home.
