6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Pass out "Can You Follow Instructions?" quiz to students and tell them they have 3 minutes to complete the quiz.
2. After they are done, meet at the meeting area. Discuss the importance of following directions and ask how it relates to sequencing.
3. Why is it important to tell a story in order? to complete a task in order?

B. Development-

1. Tell the students you are going to read a story and afterwards they are going to have to sequence several events from the story.
2. Read the book, The Biggest, Best Snowman, by Margery Cuyler. Ask comprehension questions as you read the story.
3. What was the moral of the story?

C. Practice-

1. Take out sentence strips with story events written on them. Ask for volunteers to come up and put the events in order. Use the book to check answers.
2. After the story has been sequenced, add in sequencing and transitional words.
3. Read the entire summary aloud. How do the sequence words help us follow what is going on?

D. Independent Practice-

1. The students will go back to their seats and write a chronological description of how to build a snowman.
2. First, students will write out their outline on the graphic organizer flowchart, adding sequence words.
3. Next, students will copy their sequence onto the snowman in the form of a story. After doing this they can decorate their snowman.

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Diyor will have a different graphic organizer with boxes for drawing the sequence, as opposed to writing it out.

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Did they write their story in the correct order?
2. Did they use sequencing/transitional words?

G. Closure-

Students will share their snowmen after the lesson at the meeting area.
