A. Introduction-

1.Discuss how to build new words by changing one letter. Building new words in word families with given phonograms
2. Homophones-what are they? Examples?
3. Idioms-Idioms story, read and discuss to introduce idioms...

B. Development-

1.how do we build new words, modeling
3. Idioms drawings in packet

C. Practice-

1.Building new words
2. Homophone Venn diagram
3. Idioms-story and idiom practice "cut it out" read/and draw

D. Independent Practice-

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Assist students individually as necessary. Clarify Idioms and help with understanding. Prompting for recall of homophones

F. Checking for understanding-

1.were they able to formulate new words with given phonograms
2. generate a list of homophones as a group (who is able, who is not?)
3. Idioms, since this is the first into. or idioms, do they understand what they are? Are they able to represent non-examples and examples.

G. Closure-

1.Share Idiom drawings with group
2. We will identify irregular past tense verbs in tomorrow's story, "Whale Song"
