To teach Nonstandard writing conventions (poetry, informal literature response, personal journals) and Standard writing conventions (letter to future self, formal literature response, writing assessments).
Nonstandard
1. Students will write short poems on appropriate topics allowing them to express themselves.
2. Students will write a short informal response to a piece of literature assigned.
3. Students will keep an in class personal journals.
Standard
1. Students will write a letter to their future self.
2. Students will write a formal response to a piece of literature assigned.
3. Students will complete a writing assessment.

A. Introduction-

1.Introduction of Nonstandard and Standard writing conventions
2.Request feedback in oral and written statements.
 

B. Development-

1.Use written statements as examples of Nonstandard and Standard writing conventions
2.Have students rewrite statements
3.Explain the difference between the two and show different examples of each style.
 

C. Practice-

1.Read over short poems, stories of fiction and non- fiction as a class.
2. Go over non standard, and standard writing conventions as a class with Qs and As.
 

D. Independent Practice-
