3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-

1.Students will be exposed to various text structures and features
in informational text
2.Do a close and critical read of an information grade level appropriate
article
3.Begin filling out a teacher directed organizer to write a well constructed
paragraph on text features. |

4. Objectives-
|
1. Students will participate in large group and small group discussion
2. Students will read an informational article about a student that
is unable to attend traditional school
3.Students will work in groups and with teacher to brain storm and
work on a graphic organizer about text features/structures |

5. Materials and Aids-
|
Projector, "I Use a Robot to go to School," advanced organizer,
text structure hand out, text features hand out, exit ticket, pencils,
highlighters |
|

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Introduce article/vocabulary
2.Generate discussion related to topic
3.Assess students familiarity with topic
|

|
B. Development-
1.Read article as a class
2.While reading stop and have students look at text features list
3."Talk to the text" while reading to highlight text features
|
|
|
C. Practice-
1. In small groups discuss text features found- use white boards
2.Students will pick a text structure and support answer
3.Students will see organizer modeled for them, and they will fill
in blanks or write on separate sheet of paper. |

D. Independent Practice-
Students will finish organizer after watching several examples
|
|
|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1.Physical copies of articles and projected copy at all times
2.Articles at different levels if needed
3.Small group/full group instruction, cooperative groups
4. Organizer if needed |
