1. Students will be able to use words to create a coherent story.
2. Students will be able to use the given technology to record their
story.
3. Students will show an understanding of the different parts of their
story by choosing different types of music to accompany their recorded
reading. |

1. Garage Band
2. 6 Computers
3. 1 Recording microphone
4. Paper

6. Large poster of spelling words and smaller copies for each group

10. Google images of spelling words
11. 6 dictionaries (one for each group)

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1. Teacher gathers class and plays her recorded story using the
spelling words. (This will be attention grabber for the class so make
sure this part is interesting.)
2. Teacher will review spelling words and their definitions by using
picture cards of images she obtained from Google Images.
3. Teacher splits class into groups of 3. |

B. Development-
1. After groups are split the teacher will use her SMARTBoard to
demonstrate how to use Garageband.
2. The teacher will then instruct students to begin creating their
story. |
|
|
C. Practice-
1. Teacher instructs students to begin creating their stories on
paper.
2. Students will begin writing their story.
3. Once students have completed their story, they will bring their
finished story to the teacher for immediate assessment.
4. Students will correct their mistakes.
5. Once they have corrected their spelling/grammar mistakes they will
again bring their group story back up to the teacher to begin recording
the reading of their story.
6. After students finish the recording of their story, each group
will be assigned a computer.
7. The teacher will upload each group's story to their assigned computer.
8. The group will go onto GarageBand.
9. As a group, students will use loops and MIDI keyboards to create
an appropriate soundtrack for their story.
10. Once all groups have finished recording their story and their
soundtrack they will come up to the front of the class and present
their finished product.
11. Homework for each student for the night will include a reflection
journal entry. This reflection must include: what they thought about
the project, and their opinion on the other groups projects. |

D. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1. The teacher will take into account any students with special
needs when choosing groups.
2. Teacher will give each group a spelling list to refer back to so
students with special needs will have a reference point.
3. Teacher will also gives students a dictionary to use. |

E. Checking for understanding-
1. Teacher will assess each group's written story for grammar and
spelling errors.
2. Teacher will assess each group's recording of their story.
3. Teacher will assess appropriateness of each group's soundtrack.
4. Teacher will asses each group's creativity.
5. Teacher will assess each group's pronunciation of the spelling
words.
6. Teacher will check for completion, spelling and grammar in each
student's reflection. |
