2. Students will identify with that event in the story.
3.Students will connect the event to their own life.

A. Introduction-

1. Students will web what they know, do, think about when they hear the word "relatives".
2.Students will create vocabulary quick pics.
3. Students will define the words with their own meaning.
 

B. Development-

1.Students will orally build background knowledge along with teacher.
2.Students will participate in an oral language discussion on relatives
3.Students will predict what will happen in the story.
4. Teacher will discuss making a connection.
 

C. Practice-

1.While reading the story, students will raise their hands when thinking/making a connection to their life.
2.Teacher will model her connections throughout the reading as well.
3.Teacher will look for students hands showing that they are making connections.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Students will create illustrations that show meaning/understanding of the vocabulary words.
2.Students will create a text-to-self connection that does truly connect.
3. Students will match the vocabulary word to the correct picture.
4.Students will retell the story in order using a Beginning/Middle/End organizer worksheet for homework.
5. Students will match the vocabulary words to their meaning and sentence fill-in for homework.

 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.Students who struggle will be provided with a before/after predicting picture page.
2.Vocabulary words will have student created pictures to identify with.
3.Students' connections will not be limited to one.
4. Students will be able to use a beginning/middle/end worksheet for recalling story.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Teacher will visually assess students'"quick pics".
2.Teacher will visually assess connections and hands being raised while connecting.
3. Teacher will assess the connection activity worksheet.
4. Teacher will visually assess vocabulary pic word match.
5. Students will have a sentence and match activity worksheet for homework.
 

G. Closure-

1.Students will check their predictions.
2. Students will share orally their text-to-self connection.
3. Students will match the vocabulary words to the printed pictures.
