Introduce the students to the meaning of summarizing. Add the strategy to the CAFE board. Explain the use of this strategy by showing Promethean flipchart on summarizing.

B. Development-

Day 1: Read the story "SkippyJon Jones" to the students. Use the Promethean chart "Somebody, wanted, but, so" to come up with one summarizing sentence for the entire story.
Day 3: Read "Mufaro's Beautiful Daughters". Fill out a Who, What, When, Why chart on the Promethean board as a large group.

The summary ball is a hands on activity, to accommodate all learners. The development activities are read by the teacher, so all learners will be able to participate.

F. Checking for understanding-

Students will be assessed by completing the summary type of their choice over the basal story we are reading at that time.
