3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-

1. Identify and use antonyms in context.
2. Identify and use synonyms in context.
3. Identify and use compound words in context. |
|

4. Objectives-
|
1. Student will be able to understand that a antonym is a word of
opposite meaning.
2. Student will be able to understand that a synonym is a word having
the same or nearly the same meaning as given word.
3. The student sill understand that a compound word is made up of
two independent word, combining to create a new meaning. |

5. Materials and Aids-
|
File folder literature center packets. |
|
|
6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1. Compound words would have been introduced in first grade and
reviewed in second grade.
2. Synonyms definition would be given and a word web created with
words that are the same or similar.
3. Antonyms would be introduced last as they may be the most difficult
to grasp for students. Definition and initial brainstorm would be
done to introduce antonyms. |

B. Development-
Centers would provide time for me to walk the room and create mini
lessons for further understanding with individual or small groups
of students.
|
|
|
C. Practice-
Organized literacy centers would provide timely practice and exposure.
|
|
|
D. Independent Practice-
1.Centers will be within groups but each student must get their
file folder checked off before clearing their board. Before clearing
their board they will need to read the board to a peer or preferably
to myself.
2. worksheets will be given for independent assessment. |

|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1. Pair work if students have difficulty with reading.
2. Students will be put into groups of differentiated levels so that
students with greater abilities will be able to model for the students
with less independent abilities.

F. Checking for understanding-
1. I would question students as I walk the room during centers.
2. Written worksheets would allow for individual assessment.
3. A final exam, multiple choice will be given to gather final data. |

G. Closure-
1. Review
2. Classroom wall definitions.
3. Assessment and review for those who did not master each skill. |
|
|
7. Evaluation-
|
1. Students will read each file folder once completed to myself
or to a peer.
2. Worksheets will provide assessment throughout the process of learning
the context and definitions of these core English words. |
