3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. The students will be introduced to twenty new grade
level sight words
2. The students will use various learning modalities to manipulate and learn new sight words
3. The students will create and identify the new sight words
 
4. Objectives-
1. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.3.4a Use sentence-level context as a clue to the meaning of a word or phrase.
2. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.3 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Computer
Projector

Bendaroos
Magnetic Letters
Post-It Letters

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. The students will be shown a list of new sight words- they will have to focus on the list without saying anything. They will have to activate prior knowledge and experience of seeing the words and sounding them out to themselves.
 

B. Development-

1. After the students have seen the words, they will be introduced with a voice pronunciation.
2. The students will repeat each word after it is said.
 

C. Practice-

1. After all the words have been listened to, and spoken, the students will view the full list of words on the board and smack the word (with a fly swatter) that is given. Students will take turns.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. The students will rotate to three spelling stations manipulating the given sight words for independent practice.
STATION 1- Bendaroos (create the given word with Bendaroos on individual desk)
STATION 2- Magnetic Letters (students will build words with magnetic letters on individual desk)
STATION 3- Post-It Letters (students will build words with Post-It letters on individual desk)

2. The students will be given the remaining time to color and decorate their word cards to practice at home and in class (they will later be laminated)
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. A word list will be provided for students to have in front of them
2. Students that are immobile will have stations brought to them
3. Students that are non-verbal will be able to point at words on word list when calling out words
4. Students with behaviors will have a feelings/communication chart in front of them
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. The teacher will observe students during the practice and independent practice. The teacher will aid those students requiring additional assistance, and repeat/clarify/summarize as needed
2. The students will complete a "Ticket Out The Door" of 5 of the introduced and practiced sight words- the teacher will identify student needs and strengths
 

G. Closure-

1. These are sight words that are commonly seen in every day life. We will practice these words and use them in sentences and also understand what they mean
2. The students will be shown the type of spelling test they will have on the computer for the given sight words
