PO1 Use context to determine the intended meaning of a word with multiple
meanings.
PO2 Use knowledge of root words and affixes to determine the meaning
of unknown words. |

4. Objectives-
|
1.Students will learn six new vocabulary words and will be able
to use context to determine meaning of word.
|

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Anticipatory Set: Students will "act out" meanings of new word
with body movements and facial expressions when applicable. |
|
|
B. Development-
1.Modeling: Teacher reads each word out loud while depicting facial
expression or body movements.
2. Have students open books to "Vocabulary Power" and follow with
finger while teacher reads vocabulary words.
3. Teacher will read words out loud and students will echo words.
4. Picture walk using transparencies to predict possible meaning of
words.
5. Introduce new story with picture walk through pages of book to
predict what story might be about.
6. Begin vocabulary worksheet. |

C. Practice-
1.Teacher is guiding students through picture walk.
2. Teacher will ask for volunteers to help class make predictions. |

1.Students will work on vocabulary worksheets. |

1.Under grade level class will have more time for whole class discussion
and worksheets. |

before moving on to independent practice. |
