3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
|
1.Students will be able to sound out difficult words for the purpose
of finding proper spelling.
2.Students will be able to interpret the meaning of a word based on
its location within the sentence.

4. Objectives-
|
Students will demonstrate their developed skills in spelling and
comprehension of word meaning through successfully completing an exam
on the material. |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.The teacher will briefly explain the sounding out of words,and
the importance of spelling.
2.The teacher will then explain how to find the meaning of the word
based upon its location and purpose in the sentence. |

|
B. Development-
1.The teacher will provide examples on an overhead for the students
to see.
2.The teacher will go through some exercises with the students. |
|
|
C. Practice-
1.The students will pair up in groups of two to quiz each other
on the spelling of words.
2.The students will then quiz each other on the definitions of words
based on their location in the sentence. |
|
|
D. Independent Practice-
1.The students will take home worksheets in order to practice their
newly developed skills.
2. Upon the completion of their homework exercises, the students will
quiz each other a final time before the exam. |
|
|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1. The learning disabled student will be provided with a simpler
set of words to spell and understand.
2.The student will be provided with a teachers aid through this assignment.
3.The student will be administered an oral exam instead of a written
exam. |

F. Checking for understanding-
1. The students will turn in their homework in order for the teacher
to grade an evaluate their progress before administering the exam. |

G. Closure-
1. Upon the completion of this lesson, the teacher will hold a spelling
contest in which the students will practice their new skills.
2.They will be allowed to ask the teacher for the word in a sentence,
with which they will be able to use their new skills in determining
the meaning of a word based on context. |
