Vocabulary Practice
 
2. Content-
This is a group activity. When it is the first teams turn, one student is given a card with a word on it, along with a list of other words that are not permitted to be said. The student must then try to elicit the word on the card from the group, without using any of the prohibited words. Students are not allowed to use gestures either.
The student must try to get the other team members to say the vocabulary word without saying any of the prohibited words. The second team will do the same. If any of the words are used, the teacher from the team will sound a buzzer and the round will be over.
This game is best used for practicing new vocabulary
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Students will be engaged in the game
2.Students will practice vocabulary

4. Objectives-
1.Gain a better understanding of vocabulary words
2.Improve social interaction between students
3.Allow students to practice pronunciation of words.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
books, pencil, pen, eraser, notebook, marker, highlighter, paper, chalk, chalkboard, computer, table, television.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Game is introduced to students
2.Students will be provided a list of words
3.Students will be separated into teams
 

B. Development-

1.Students must understand the words and meanings.
2.Students must be able to pronounce words
3.Students will be required to understand words in context
 

C. Practice-

1.Students will be encouraged to use classroom objects
2.Students will be monitored for interacting with others
3.Students will be evaluated on understanding of the game
 

D. Independent Practice-

1.Students must show understanding of objects and words
2.Students must actively participate
3.Students must gain points for their team
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.Students will be given a variety of words
2.Students will be permitted to use any appropriate words
3.teachers can change classroom objects, and increase difficulty of game
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Students understood and played game

G. Closure-

1.I would first ensure students understand the words by giving them a verbal vocabulary test.
2. I would simply have them reflect on their experience with the game, as well as evaluate them through observation.
 
7. Evaluation-
1.This activity is aimed at preparing students for the real world. It not only allows them to learn and understand vocabulary in a fun way, but also gets them to interact with one another. The interaction is setup to be a social environment. The cultural differences of students are set aside, and all students are participating, and having fun together.
2.To assess the students, students will need to ensure they understand the vocabulary words and their meanings. Students could be assessed and evaluated in a combination of ways. I would first ensure they understand the words by giving them a verbal vocabulary test. Then, I would simply have them reflect on their experience with the game, as well as evaluate them through observation.
