2. Content-
Students will write and speak with a command of standard English conventions appropriate to grade level.

Standards for Grade level 1. Standards in Language Arts
1.0 written and Orel English language conventions.

1.5 sentences- the student should be able to use, periods, exclamation points, or question marks at the end of a sentence.

1.7 Capitalization- the student should be able to use capitals in the first word of a sentence, name of people, and in pronouns.
 
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Identify a capital letter in a sentence.
2.Identify a period in a sentence.
3.Identify when to capitalize a pronoun.
 
4. Objectives-
1.The student should see and understand each sentence starts with a capital letter.
2.The student should see and understand where the period goes at the end of each sentence.
3.The student should see and understand when and were to capitalize a pronoun.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
1.Pencils
2. one written out daily story for students to copy from.
3.A blank daily story for students to write on.
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.I will tell the students it is time to read the daily story.
2.We will first read and fill out the top part of our daily story. #1 Today is.... and a student will tell me what today is.
#2 Yesterday was....and a student will then tell me what yesterday was.
#3 Tomorrow will be.....and a student will tell me what tomorrow will be.
#4 The weather outside is....and a student will tell me what the weather is like.
#5 The season is....and a student will tell me what season we are in.
3. Then we will read the daily story as a whole class one time through so that the students better understand what has been written on the story.
 

B. Development-

1. I will put up examples of sentences with no capital and no period. And I will also put up a sentence that has a capital and a period to show the difference in right and wrong.
2.I will then ask one student at a time to read a line on the daily story and we will work together as a class to fix the mistakes in that line.

 

D. Independent Practice-

After we have worked as a class on the first 3 or 4 lines I will allow the kids to go ahead and finish the rest of the story on there own.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1.After the students have finished with the story, the students must come to either me or one of the other para's in the class and read the daily story aloud to one of use. And at that time we can go over any mistakes they may of made or missed.
 

G. Closure-

After the student has read the daily story and fixed all the mistakes in the story they then can go over to the computer and type out the daily story with all the right corrections.
