6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1. Students will be asked to tell the words that make up FANBOYS
and where the comma belongs in the sentence.
2. Students will review the work that they have started with the outline
and rough draft of their paper. They will be reminded that they need
to vary sentence starters and avoid the challenge words.
3. Students will be reminded that writing is to be in MLA format.
4. Students will be asked what it means to edit and revise.
5. Students will be asked to review their personal writing goals. |
|
|
B. Development-
Students will be shown a teacher generated model. The paper, written
by the teacher, will be in edited in the SOLO program by both the
teacher and the students. The students will be able to hear and see
the teacher's computer using an overhead projector and speakers. |
|
|
C. Practice-
While still looking at the teacher sample and with the ability to
ask questions and model, the students will begin working on their
own papers. |
|
|
D. Independent Practice-
Students will be encouraged to work independently on editing their
papers and navigating through the process on their own after teacher
modeling is complete. |
|
|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
All students in this class have accommodations that must be adhered
to. Accommodations mandated by IEP will be given on an individual
basis. Students who require more assistance will be given the help
they need. Differentiated instruction happens naturally with the independence
of this assignment. Each student is being graded on individual goals
that they have created. Students will higher ability levels will be
expected to achieve higher level standards. Those students who struggle
with writing, will be working on goals that are geared to their current
ability. |
|
|
F. Checking for understanding-
The instructional assistant and I will be circulating around the
room checking for understanding. We will be asking questions and pointing
out parts of each student's assignment that are done very well as
well as parts that need more editing attention. |
|
|
G. Closure-
Students will be given instructions to save their paper into Microsoft
Word because SOLO does not save well with the students network. Students
who believe that they are finished may hand in a printed copy of their
work to be reviewed. All assignments will be due on Thursday at the
end of the period, after evaluating their paper. |
|
|
7. Evaluation-
|
Students will self evaluate using a rubric on a 35 point scale.
They will give themselves a 1-5 with 5 being the highest score in
the following 7 categories: Voice, Conventions, Sentence Fluency,
Ideas, Word Choice, Organization, and Presentation.
Once self evaluation is complete, the students will hand in the assignment
to be graded by the teacher on the same rubric and point value. |
