6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Distribute two, short, typed selections, one with paragraph indentations, one without
2.Ask students which is easier to read
3.Point out that organization ad structure are important in understanding and locating the main idea and details of a paragraph
 

B. Development-

1.read assigned selection aloud with class following in their books
2.Locate the main idea and supporting details for each paragraph
3.Guide students into noticing that each paragraph presents different information but are related
 

C. Practice-

1.List the main ideas and details on the dry erase board
2.Student must copy into their notebooks
3.Make sure students copy correctly
 

D. Independent Practice-

Student generate their own paragraphs when given a topic
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.Assign special needs students a partner of their choice
2.Give extended time as needed
3.Read paragraph aloud as many times as needed
