A. Introduction-

Good morning, I am Mrs. Chichy, and today I will be working with you during the peer conferences of problem/solutions essay. (1-2 min)

B. Development-

To begin our conferences today, I would first like you to break up into pairs. Once everybody has conference buddy, I want you to take turns reading your paper aloud. This is so you can hear any mistakes or confusing parts of your paper yourself. Go ahead and break into groups, and please try to read quietly. You need to be loud enough for you partner to hear you, but quite enough that others can hear their partners. You will have about ten minutes. ----OK class, we are going to come back to large group for a short time. Did you notice any mistakes or confusing parts of your paper while reading aloud? I would like you to get into the habit of reading your papers out loud during drafting. Read it to your dog, fish, family members or to yourself. This way you can catch some mistakes before having a peer review. (10-12 min)

C. Practice-

It is quite possible that you will catch several mistakes while reading your paper out loud, but we still want to have our peers review our paper. I have handed you a colored packet. Quickly and quietly, find other members of the classroom that have the same color as you. Trade your paper with one of these members and begin to review their paper. First I would like you to read the paper through once, to familiarize yourself with the topic, then read through the paper again and answer the questions on the review sheet. You will have approximately 20 minutes to complete the review. So, go ahead and get started on reading the paper. If you have any questions, please raise your hand. If you have a spelling or word choice question, here is a dictionary and thesaurus to help you.

D. Independent Practice-

OK class, twenty minutes is up, so please return the paper to its owner. I'd like you all to look at your review sheet, and consider the suggestions that have been made to you. If you have any questions, ask the reviewer. These reviews will not only improve your writing greatly, but may make the difference between an A and B paper. Take these reviews and use them to make changes. Here I have a handout for you that will maybe provide a few ideas in preparing your final draft. On this page are introductory hooks, source introduction ideas, as well as a quick MLA citation reference. I recommend you keep this in a folder so you can reference it for other papers as well. With what remaining time we have left, begin to look closely at your review and your paper, and begin to make some changes.
