1. Students will write simple and complex sentences.

2. Students will write sentences that flow together and sound natural when read aloud.

3. Students will vary sentence beginnings, lengths, and patterns to enhance the flow of the writing.
 
4. Objectives-
Students will write meaningful sentences.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
pencils, erasers, paper, sentence expansion tree sheet, simple sentence examples
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

Today we will be writing meaningful sentences. Raise your hand and tell me what you think "meaningful sentences" are. (Listen to responses) Sentences that are detailed are meaningful sentences. They contain not just a "who" and a "what" but also "where", "when",
"why/how".
 

B. Development-

1. Write a few simple sentences on the board.

2. Call on students to provide sentence expanders.

3. Write the meaningful sentence on the board.
 

C. Practice-

1. Pair/group students together to write a simple sentence for the class.

2. Have students add expanders to simple sentence.

3. Write out new sentence.
 

D. Independent Practice-

Students will add details to simple sentences.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Provide additional examples

2. Provide additional time
 

F. Checking for understanding-

Call on students to read a sentence that they or their group created.
 

G. Closure-

Today we learned how to change simple sentences into meaningful sentences.
 
7. Evaluation-
Review students' writing to check for usage of expanders.
