3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
|
1.To have each student successfully write a Thank You Note using
all 5 components.

4. Objectives-
|
1.Students brainstorm as a class a list of needed vocabulary/spelling
words.
2.Students will use the writing process/ 6 Traits in constructing
a letter.
3.Students will create a background/boarder to enhance the Thank You
Note. |

5. Materials and Aids-
|
Butcher paper for vocabulary/spelling words.
Lined paper for drafts.
Nice notecard paper for final daft.
Various colors of markers, and/or construction paper, and glue. |

6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Talk about the garden and what we've learned about plants.
2.Dicuss what a 'Thank You Note' is.
3.Answer 'Why?' do we write Thank You Notes. 'Are they good to receive?'
'Would you like to receive one?' |

B. Development-
1.Remind students of the writing process.
2.Remind students of the 6 Writing Traits.
3.Display a pre-made 'Thank You Note' |

C. Practice-
1.Think-Pair-Share the Writing process and 6-Traits.
2.Think-Pair-Share an occasion where you gave or received a Thank
You Note. |

|
D. Independent Practice-
Students may work in pairs to create their own personalized Thank
You Note.
|
|
|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1.EIP Students can pair up and write the same things in each note.
2.Teacher will carefully monitor these students and offer suggestions.

|
F. Checking for understanding-
A rubric will be used to score the level of understanding. Measuring;
use of the 5 components, voice, grammar, ideas & content, etc.

G. Closure-
Give each student the opportunity to share their work with the class.
