4. Objectives-
1. Students will identify and help correct sentences to make complete sense.
2. Students will read and write the word that in a sentence pattern.
3. Students will fill in the blank and write an additional sentence independently.
 
5. Materials and Aids-
paper
pencil
some pencil grips
writing journal
word journal
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Look at new rubric and examples displayed by teacher.
2. Use the pattern sentence verbally with some examples to identify the word of the week.
 

B. Development-

1.Model correcting a sentence to make complete sense.
2.Review pencil and body positioning reminders when we write.
3. Write first sentence on the board as a class.
 

C. Practice-

1.Students write their first sentence, "Look at that ___," with teacher.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Students will draw a matching picture to accommodate their first sentence.
2. Students will independently write their second sentence.
3. Students will re-read their work to themselves 3 times when they are finished.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Highlight sentence in their book for those who have difficulty copying from the board.
2. Give a starter sentence for those kids who struggle on the independent portion.
3. For students who need a challenge, require three sentences or an adjective to be added to their second sentence.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Review some papers orally and ask ourselves if they make complete sense.
2. Have the students use a rubric to check their own work.
 

G. Closure-

Why is it important to make complete sense in our writing?
 
7. Evaluation-
1. Did they understand the new addition to the rubric?
2. Are they able to self evaluate and check their work?
