6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Today we are going to be working on some addition and subtraction.
2.We are going to do a couple of different things for our lesson today and they include: word matching, addition and subtraction worksheets and your math packet.

B. Development-

1.First I have written key addition and subtraction terms on some index cards.
2. As you can see up on the board I have a plus sign and a minus sign.
3.I want you to go up to the board and pick a word and determine if the word is an addition or subtraction term.
4.Place the word under the correct column.

C. Practice-

1.Please go up to the board and complete the activity.
2.Now we are going to work on some addition and subtraction worksheets. Using the previous activity as a guide look at the following worksheet and I want you to decide if it is an addition problem or subtraction problem.
3.Write the word addition or subtraction on the line.
4. When you have completed that worksheet the next worksheet simply asks you to solve the problems and write the answer on the line.

D. Independent Practice-

1.Go ahead and finish this worksheet to the best of your ability. We will go over your answers when you are finished.

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.Shortened assignment
2.Words pre-written on index cards

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Have the student read through the problems and tell you how they came up with their answer.

G. Closure-

1. Great job. Next time we will continue on with this lesson developing it into more complex addition and subtraction problems.
2.Eventually we will get into multiplication and division.

The student will be monitored on a weekly basis as to their progress toward completing their goal.
