Knowledge and skills in Lesson: Students have a basic knowledge of single digit multiplication, they understand with strategies how to multiply by 0's, 1's, 2's, 5's and 9's. This lesson will focus on strategies for multiplying by 3's, 4's, 6's 7's, and 8's using timed tests, flashcard games, and audio and visual reinforcements.

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
Students will score 90% or higher while taking a 5 minute (100 problem) test
 
4. Objectives-
1. Given 5 minutes, students will answer 90 out of 100 multiplication problems correctly.
2. Students will listen to and watch Multiplication Rocks and will be able to recite two of the songs.
3. Students will increase their math knowledge through repetition of Flashcards
 
5. Materials and Aids-
1. Multiplication timed test, pencils and paper.
2. TV and VHS player, Multiplication Rocks video.

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Gain Student Attention: You can sing in class today! because to day we are going to play a math game, watch a video and challenge our brains.
2.Explain the Objective: First off we are going to challenge our brains by showing what we know about multiplication facts, then we will break into groups to sing and play a math game.
3.Relate to Prior Knowledge: Before we get started lets review what we know. (go through math facts of 0,1,2,5,and 9's)
 

B. Development-

1. Multiplying by 3's is to double the number then add one more of that number.
2. Multiplying by 4's is to double and double the number.
3. Multiplying by 6's is to use you knowledge of multiplying by 5's and adding one more of the number.
 

C. Practice-

1. Timed Test
2. Math video
3. Flashcard game
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. Blank multiplication table to take home and complete.
2. Flashcards to take home and practice.
3. Make corrections to timed test and or finish at home.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Multiples of numbers examples (counting by the number)
2. Multiplication video in Spanish
3. Scribe answers for students that require intervention.
 

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Timed test
2. Flashcard knowledge
3. Sing along with multiplication video
4. Question about what strategy they are using to solve problems.
 

G. Closure-

1. Review one or two strategies taught.
2. Sing one of the multiplication songs as a group.

8. Teacher Reflection-
Two out of the twelve students scored above 90% on their pre-test. The students enjoyed the video and were singing along with out prompting. The flashcard challenge brought out the competitive nature of the students, but they had fun with it. Post testing the following day showed some progress in some students, but others answered less than the day prior.
