1. Topic-
Single digit addition

2. Content-
numbers 1-10
addition concept

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
the students will learn single digit addition using different strategies

4. Objectives-
the students will be able to add single digits

5. Materials and Aids-
counters, markers, whiteboards, smartboard

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

The teacher reviews numbers from 1-20 orally. The teacher ask some students to stand up and make 2 groups (4 and 2); she tells the students: if 3 kids came to school, then 2 more kids came as well. How many students came? (showing students how to group and count in order to sum)

B. Development-

The teacher will draw a bubble map on the smart board, with the word addition on the main bubble (as the topic. Then she will ask the students what do they think when they listen to the word add. They will fill the bubble map together.

C. Practice-

The teacher will give students a set of counters. She will ask the students to listen carefully what she is going to say to represent it with the counters. (eg. I have 3 chocolates, my friend give me 2 more chocolates. How many chocolates do I have now?)

D. Independent Practice-

The teacher will give the students a white board and a marker and ask them to work in pairs. The students need to create their own addition problem for the other student to solve. They will take turns. They can use the white boards if they need to write when solving it, or just use the counter if they need it.

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Small group instruction for students that need extra help
When using counters give them two specific colors, so they can differentiate the 2 different number in addition.

F. Checking for understanding-

Students will solve the problem of the day (related to the topic) in their journals.

G. Closure-

As a whole group discussion, talk about different ways they can use to add numbers (counters, fingers, pictures, numbers) and ask them when do they use addition in daily life.

7. Evaluation-
Ask some of the students to create an addition story problems in order for their classmates to use the ways they propose to add numbers.

8. Teacher Reflection-
Are the student able to count and add numbers using different strategies?
