2. Content-
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
Take a look at concepts of probability through hands on approach
4. Objectives-
Apply concepts and principles of probability to describe the outcome
of simple and compound events.
5. Materials and Aids-
Playing cards, Pencil, Paper and optional a Calculator |
6. Procedures/Methods-
A. Introduction-
1. Introduce the hands on activity as Predicting with playing Cards
2. Explain and define probability as the chance or likelihood a certain
event will occur
B. Development-
1. Pass out a deck of cards to each student
2. Have the students write down the different cards in the deck on
their paper.
C. Practice-
1. Using the deck that the teacher has, show the students a few
examples of probability in fraction, decimal and percentage form.
2. Go over how the answers were reached
D. Independent Practice-
1.Have the students work out a few problems on their own with their
decks of cards
2. Have each student write their answers to the problems on the same
paper from before.
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
F. Checking for understanding-
1. Have the students swap papers with someone near them.
2. Go over the right answers to each and every problem.
3. Have the students mark each question on the paper in front of them
as right or wrong
4. Students hand back papers to the original owner for them to review. |
G. Closure-
1. Collect each paper that was marked
2. Ask the class the question of "what is probability?" and call on
a student to give their answer.
3. Ask the class a final probability question of "what is the probability
of me calling on you in this class to have answered the previous question. |
7. Evaluation-
Continue to practice and review the following days to discover the
understanding level of each student
8. Teacher Reflection-
How well did the students comprehend the information? How well did
the students behave through out the lesson? |
