1. Topic-
Forming a Proportion from Two Ratios

2. Content-
Ratio and Proportion

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
Students must be able to form a proportion from two ratios.

4. Objectives-
1. Students must be able to differentiate ratio and proportion
2. Students must be able to solve for the ratio and proportion in a given problem
3. Students must be able to give the proper proportion for a given ratio

5. Materials and Aids-
Pancake Ingredients
Visual Aids
Word Problems
Whiteboard
Marker

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

Start the class by reiterating the classroom rule for the day: "More talk, Less Stars." Explain to the class that as they are divided into two groups, instead of gaining stars for good behavior, they will already have stars that will be taken from them if they are to be misbehaved.

Then, once the class is settled down, have them accomplish the first activity where they will have to figure out the amount of ingredients they will need to make a certain number of pancakes, given a set recipe. (See attachment for activity guidelines and procedure)

B. Development-

After 10 minutes, have the class post their work on the board. Have each group explain how they came up with their answers. Then, if one of the groups was able to get the correct answer using the correct method, further expound on their work. If not, point out their mistakes and introduce the concept of proportion. Post the rules for forming a proportion from two ratios.

C. Practice-

Present another problem this time using the concept of Time Management and have the class solve the problem with you via recitation. (See attachment for problem and solution)

D. Independent Practice-

Then, give the class at least 3 simple word problems on finding the proportion for given ratios, which they will have to solve individually.

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

F. Checking for understanding-

After 10 minutes, have 3 students solve one problem each on the board.

G. Closure-

To end the class, reiterate rules in forming a proportion out of two ratios.

7. Evaluation-
For evaluation, have students make their own simple problem about forming a proportion out of two ratios.
