1. Topic-
3-D Figures

2. Content-
1.Identify three-dimensional figures and vocabulary: face, edge, vertex, net.

2. Recognize nets for: cube, rectangular prism.

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Identify three-dimensional figures and vocabulary: face, edge, vertex, net.

2. Be able to identify nets for geometric shape.

4. Objectives-
1. The students will practice drawing nets.

2. The students will create 3-D figures for their nets.

3. The students will learn new vocabulary.

5. Materials and Aids-
grid paper, tape, scissors, textbook, white boards, expo, 3-D shapes, patterns

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. DOM: Row One

2. Quick Review:
-5378/2
-2349/3

3. Review geometric 3-D shapes. Hold up net to compare the 3-D shape.

B. Development-

1. Model the different names of each three-dimensional figure. Pass the figures around and let the students look at each individual shape.

2. Go over the different parts of a three-dimensional shape: face, edge, and vertex. Also, discuss what a net is in terms of 3-D figures.

C. Practice-

1. Hand out graph papers and practice making nets. Let the students try to create their own net for a rectangular prism. Then show the students how to form the net. Then let them try again for a cube. This time let the students look at page 360 for the net pattern in the book. For the slower students they may use the pre-made nets to form their cubes.

2. Practice and Problem solving in textbooks page 361.
3. After they have drawn their net, the students will cut out the net and fold it along the dotted line. They will then tape the edges to form a cube.

4. Have the students write down how many faces, vertices, and edges their cube has.

D. Independent Practice-

Skills Practice 9-1 numbers 1-8

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Example of 3-D figures for students to touch and look at

2. Make own model of 3-D figure

3. pre-made nets for slower students

F. Checking for understanding-

Check their 3-D figure and the answers to how many faces, edges, and vertices as well as textbook practice questions.

G. Closure-

The students will label faces, vertices, and edges on a figure on the board.

7. Evaluation-
Evaluated on Skills Practice 9-1
