1. Topic-
Area and Perimeter of Triangles

2. Content-
Triangle:a polygon with three sides.
Area:1/2bh
Side: any line segment that make up a polygon
Base of triangle: The side of a triangle which is perpendicular to the altitude.
Height of triangle: The distance between a vertex of a triangle and the opposite side. Formally, the shortest line segment between a vertex of a triangle and the (possibly extended) opposite side. Altitude also refers to the length of this segment.
Perimeter:is the distance around a closed plane figure.
The perimeter, P, of a triangle is given by the formula
P = a + b + c
where a, b and c are the side lengths of the triangle.

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
Competency Goal 3: The learner will understand and use properties and relationships of plane figures.

4. Objectives-
3.01 Identify, define, describe, and accurately represent triangles, quadrilaterals, and other polygons.
3.02 Make and test conjectures about polygons involving:
A) Sum of the measures of interior angles
B)Lengths of sides and diagonals
C) Parallelism and perpendicularly of sides & diagonals
3.04 Solve problems involving the properties of triangles, quadrilaterals, and other polygons.
A) Sum of the measures of interior angles
B) Lengths of sides and diagonals
C) Parallelism and perpendicularly of sides & diagonals

5. Materials and Aids-
Rulers, color supplies, construction paper, calculator.

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Geometry: area and perimeter of triangles. Introduce the formulas for the area of a triangle: 1/2bh, which is 1/2 the base times the height. Then introduce the perimeter formula which is
2.Reading: read book: The Greedy Triangle by Merlin Burns
3. Visual Arts: have each student create a picture on a poster using only triangles. Allow the students to be creative and pick what their picture will be of.

B. Development-

1. Begin by having the class count off 1,2. So that half of the class is number 1 and half of the class is number 2. Then instruct all of the students to create triangles and make up lengths of their choice then find the area and perimeter of the triangles they created but to keep it on a separate sheet of paper.
2. Then have the students who are 1's pair with a student who is a 2 and allow them to trade the triangles they created and to try and solve each others perimeter and area.

C. Practice-

1. Assign a worksheet for the students to complete once they are able to work with a partner and create their own triangle.

D. Checking for understanding-

1. Collect the worksheet to ensure that all students were able to figure out the methods to solving the perimeter and area of each triangle.

E. Closure-

1.The students should have more fun being able to create their own triangle and pick how long they want the base and height to be and figure out what the area and perimeter are under different curricumstances.
