2. Line of Symmetry (REVIEW)
3. Congruent |
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. The students will be able to identify when two shapes are congruent. |
4. Objectives-
5. Materials and Aids-
1. Geo-boards
2. Rubber bands
3. Smart Board and Document Camera
4. Worksheets- Congruent Shapes |
6. Procedures/Methods-
A. Introduction-
1. Review with the class about lines of symmetry. Ask them about
what is special about the two parts of a symmetric shape. Guide them
to getting to they are the same. |
B. Development-
1. Draw two congruent triangles. Ask the class if they are the same
shape. They will say yes. Ask them if they are the same size. They
will say yes. Tell them that these two shapes are congruent.
2. Explain to the class that if two shapes are the same shape and
the same size, then they are congruent. |
C. Practice-
1. Using the white board and/or Smart Board, give examples of different
pairs of congruent and incongruent shapes. As a class have them identify
if they are the same size, same shape, and eventually congruent. |
D. Independent Practice-
1. Give them each a geo-board with two rubber bands. Have them practice
making a congruent shapes.
2. Pass out worksheets, they can use geo-boards to help them make
their shapes. |
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1. If the class isn't following on the worksheet, I will stop them
and borrow a geo-board and explain to them about what they are to
do. |
F. Checking for understanding-
1. Have them ask any questions they may have.
2. Quiz on examples of congruent and incongruent shapes. |
