3. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Distribute Pattern blocks to each of the groups. Ask students
to make a repeating pattern with the blocks, and then have one of
the groups show their pattern on the overheard or board. Ask the rest
of the class to state what attributes change in the pattern and to
describe how they change.
2.what attributes can you use to make a pattern with the pattern blocks?
3. color, shape, direction position |
|
|
B. Development-
1.you will be exploring patterns that are made from shapes. Turn
to page 186 and let's discuss the characteristics of the rug, such
as color, design, texture, and shape.
2.describe what you like about the rug and how the you think the artist
created it
3.working as a class let's answer parts A and B by listing attribute
of the rug and discussing how the attributes change according to the
pattern, remind students of their previous work with symmetry and
congruency. Have students complete part c and d |
|
|
C. Practice-
1.the attributes in the main part of the rug are shape, color and
orientation (position). some students may see the stripes at the end
as a part of the rug pattern other may see them as the border
2.the attribute that change according to a pattern are shape and orientation,
the attribute color also changes, but it doesn't appear to do so in
a pattern.
What are the most efficient ways to find lines of symmetry, how can
we label congruent shapes |
