1. Topic-
Pythagorean Theorem

2. Content-
Reasoning and Measurement lesson-Pythagorean Theorem

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
The goal of this lesson is for students to be able to calculate the unknown side of a right triangle, given the lengths of the other two sides.

4. Objectives-
1.The students will be able to describe and define the Pythagorean Theorem when asked from memory.
2.The students will be able to identify a right triangle and the corresponding sides that fit the Pythagorean Theorem.
3.Given two variables the students will know how to solve for the missing variable.

5. Materials and Aids-
PowerPoint
Camera
Homework Handout
calculators
paper

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Start PowerPoint that explains the Pythagorean Theorem in more depth.
2.Go through each slide and ask lots of questions to makes sure you get good feedback.

B. Development-

1.Hand out the Homework/practice Handout.
2.Explain to the students that as a class we are going to do problems one thru three together and then they will complete 4-8 at home.

C. Practice-

1.Read the first problem outloud and guide students through the problem.
2.Ask if there are any questions.

D. Independent Practice-

1.The students will then try to complete problem 2 on their own
2.Walk around the classroom and monitor what is going on
3.ask if any questions after several minutes and then have a student work out problem 2 on the board.
4. Repeat for problem 3

Checking for understanding-

1.Ask for a student to volunteer to tell you what the parts of the right triangle called.
2.Ask the students again when they allowed to use the Pythagorean Theorem?

Closure-

1.Tell the students that they did a good job today and then dismiss them as a class.
