1. Topic-
Spatial Sense

2. Content-
Slides, Flips, and Turns

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.To be able to identify slides, flips, and turns.
2.Knowing how to slide, flip, and turn objects can help you when you are assembling toys and puzzles.
3.Knowing this type of spatial sense can help you as an adult with fixing things in a house.

4. Objectives-
1.The learner will be able to slide, flip, or turn a shape given a shape and commands to do so.
2. I will know that you understand this idea by watching you work this morning, by looking at your worksheet, and I will be testing you on this idea.

5. Materials and Aids-
shapes, index cards, a domino, flash card, paper fish,ELMO.Harcourtbrace computer activity

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Anticipatory Set: Think about sliding down on a slide. Are you usually in the same shape from the top of the slide to the bottom after you slide down?

B. Development-

1.Today we will consider this question as we move objects on our desks. We will discuss whether the object has been slid, flipped, or turned.
I will model this using myself, individuals, shapes, or objects.
I will ask questions such as: How do you know the fish was moved by sliding it?
(flip) What was done to the fish now? How do you know that?
(turn) Now what did I do to the fish? How do you know?
I will say: A slide is when we move an object to a new position without turning or flipping it. I will demonstrate.
Then: A flip is the movement of a shape over a line. I will demonstrate.
Last: A turn is the movement of an object around a fixed point. I will demonstrate.

C. Practice-

1.Students will practice by using a shape to slide, flip, or turn according to my directions.

D. Independent Practice-

.Practice worksheet

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.Harcourtbrace computer program ( Brydger, Brien, David)
2.Advanced learners: TE page 349B
3.Reteaching worksheet 20.3

F. Checking for understanding-

1.Continual feedback during the lesson based on questions, activity completion, observation by me, worksheet

G. Closure-

1.Given a domino shown under ELMO students will tell their shoulder partner if it shows a slide, flip, or turn.

7. Evaluation-
1.worksheet 20.3
2.chapter test-Friday
