3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
|
CCSS.Math.Content.G-CO.A.1, students will be able to identify and
understand the definitions of the vocabulary listed above. |
|
|
4. Objectives-
|
1.Students will decode vocabulary words to the best of their ability
in their glossary during the pre-reading activity, and then compare
their decodes with the textbook definitions.
2.Students will create their own sentences and/or examples using the
vocabulary wards and share them during the vocabulary self-collection
strategy.
3. Students will demonstrate their understanding and comprehension
of vocabulary through the independent practice and extension activity
with at least 70% accuracy. |

5. Materials and Aids-
|
Prentice Hall Geometry(2011) textbooks for the students, personal
glossary pages, smartboard, PowerPoint presentation of direct instruction,
dry-erase markers or chalk, matching definitions to scrambled words
worksheets. |
|
|
6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Pass out personal glossaries with each entry having the following:

PERSONAL DEFINITION:
TEXTBOOK DEFINITION:
SENTENCE AND/OR EXAMPLE:
2. Provide each word one at a time on the smartboard with a sentence
or example provided. Give students thinking/writing time to try decoding
each word using the context clues. |

B. Development-
1.Provide direct instruction, with a mixture of the teacher going
over textbook definitions and guided practice problems on the smartboard
and having students read out-loud from the section.
2. Throughout the instruction, students will write the textbook definitions
in their glossary as they appear. |
|
|
C. Practice-
Students will be split into teams for a vocabulary self-collection
activity. Each team will select a vocabulary word that they feel is
important or wish to go over in detail and write in on the board.
Classmates will then share their ideas and thoughts and other information
from external references on each word. After 7 minutes,the students
and teacher will record any modified/agreed-upon definitions on the
board in their notebooks. |

D. Independent Practice-
Assignment: Page 152-153, #1-3, 4-7, 16-19, 20-25, 27, 28-31
|

|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
Students will be split into pairs into work on assignment and discuss/check
answers. |
|
|
F. Checking for understanding-
Students will complete the assignment on pages 152-153. Due the
next day.
|
|
|
G. Closure-
Provide students with the extension activity of matching definitions
to scrambled words. Due in the next two days, but students who are
ahead on homework may get ahead on this too. |
|
|
7. Evaluation-
|
Students will be evaluated on class and group participation. They
will also be graded on the textbook page assignment and the extension
activity. |
