1. Topic-
Graphing Precipitation, Temperature, and Chance of Precipitation

2. Content-
recording data
precipitation
humidity

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Students will graph recorded data of the weather in the school area where their garden is planted (this could be on going through out the life of the garden).
2. Students will understand the importance of the effect of precipitation and temperature on farming.

4. Objectives-
1. Students will check an on-line weather site and record the temperature, precipitation, and chance of precipitation for two weeks
2. Students will graph their collected data.
3. Students will discuss how their graphs could assist in predicting the moisture need for a productive garden.
4. Students will write an essay describing the effects of weather on farming.

5. Materials and Aids-
record sheets
web sites
graphing paper
markers

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Introduce the students to a garden.
2.Discuss needs of a garden.
3. Discuss effects weather may have on a farm.

B. Development-

1. Go to a web site to research past weather of a specific farming area.
2. Develop a record sheet to keep data for precipitation, temperature, and, chance of precipitation.

C. Practice-

1. Check record sheet for proper information as the week progresses.
2. Demonstrate and practice making a graph.
3. Set up and label axis for graphing

D. Independent Practice-

1. Plot daily data
2. Monitor progress

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Assist with plotting points

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Through out discussion ask key concepts of lesson.
2. Check graphs and data collection

G. Closure-

Students will write an essay detailing how the monitoring of precipitation and temperature will effect farming.

7. Evaluation-
90 percent success rate for the class on the understanding of graphing and the effects weather has on farming.

8. Teacher Reflection-
1. Do the students understand how to plot points on a graph?

2. Do the students understand the effects that weather has on farming?
