1. Topic-
|
|
2. Content-
|
Using objects or pictures to ow data about things that can be counted
to solve real world problems involving picture graphs.
Vocabulary:
Data - information that has numbers. Data can be shown in charts,
tables and graphs.
Picture Graph - A graph that uses pictures or symbols to show data.
More, Fewer, Most, Least, Same |
|
|
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
|
Common Core Standards:
1.MD.4
Organize, represent, and interpret data with up to three categories;
ask and answer questions about the total number of data points, how
many in each category, and how many more or less are in one category
than in another. |
|
|
4. Objectives-
|
1. I can collect & organize data.
2.I can show data as a picture graph.
3. I can understand the data shown on a picture graph by making statements
or answering questions about it.
IEP objectives:
Luke - Goal 3.1 - Write and sequence numbers.
Cate - Goal 4.4 - Use 1:1 correspondence to count pictures or numbers
up to 20 and write them. |
|
|
5. Materials and Aids-
|
Math in Focus 1B:
Reteach pp. 15-20
WB pp.25-28, SB 30-35
Skylanders graphing game
Zoo animals graphing game
linking cubes and graphing mats, Smartboard Graphing Activity. |
|
|
6. Procedures/Methods-
|
A. Introduction-
1.Warm-up by sorting items by color. How many in each? How many
more? How many fewer? Any same/equal? (Use first and last names for
further practice with this if necessary.)pp 16-17 in Reteach to assess.
2. Is it easy to tell how many more of one than another there is?
When in a graph, it is easier to see, interpret/understand and compare.
3. Introduce vocabulary and review most, fewest, least more, fewer,
same/equal, picture graph, data. |
|
|
B. Development-
1. Use p. 18 in reteach to introduce parts of graph and vocabulary.
Create vocabulary cards, using stickers to illustrate concepts.
2. Together: Create rubber fruit graph
3. Together: Create Smartboard graph. |
|
|
C. Practice-
1. Give students interest graphs (Luke - Skylanders, Cate - Zoo
Animals) and have them create their own graphs.
2. Have them make statements about graph.
3. Extend to see if can come up with own questions about the graph. |
|
|
D. Independent Practice-
1. Go over directions for Mrs. Louis' Fruit Graph (p.20, Reteach)
2. Have students turn pictures into numbers and interpret graph.
3. Allow students to come up with own graph ideas and reasons their
graph might help them or others. |
|
|
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1. Read directions and words aloud.
2. Scribe statements and questions, if needed.
3. Give word bank to help complete fill-ins. |
|
|
F. Checking for understanding-
1. Observation
2. Use Reteach p. 23 as morning work for next day to see if information
was retained. |
|
|
G. Closure-
1. Have students fill-out Math journal page about what they learned
that day.
2. Ask students to think about other information they may want to
graph and to bring ideas on for next lesson. |
|
|
7. Evaluation-
|
1. P. 20 (Reteach)
2. Vocabulary card check.(Give flash cards students made to check
for understanding.)
3. Math Journal entry. |
