1. Topic-
Measurement

2. Content-
Perimeter and Area

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
Students will be able to solve word problems using perimeter and area .
Students will use concrete objects and models to show comprehension.

4. Objectives-
To enhance student knowledge of measurement. To enhance student thinking and reasoning power. To develop student interest in learning the subject. To help students understand and apply the formulae for determining the area and perimeter of a rectangle and a square.
2.Represent and Solve Multi Step Perimeter and Area Problems.

5. Materials and Aids-
Pencial
Math Notebook
WhiteBoard and or Smart Board
Graph Paper
Manipulatives
Supplemental Materials

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

Upon completion of this lesson students will be able to calculate the Area and Perimeter of random shapes.

B. Development-

With the words still on the board the teacher will hand geometric shapes to each student with a pencil each student will label each shape with its formula (perimeter p= s+s+s+s).
(handout) This activity helps students discover on their own the formula for learning the area and perimeter of a rectangle and a square.

C. Practice-

The teacher will have the students solve the following problem to ensure that they understand the concept and can apply the formula. [Adapt these problems to the U.S. System of measurement.] Find the cost of fencing a rectangular field 32 meters long and 18 meters wide at $2.25 per meter. Find the cost of cultivating the same field at $12 per square meter.

D. Independent Practice-

The teacher will give the students a supplemental material. They will do this on their own.

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Upon Teacher Observation
Supplemental Material Spaghetti and Meatball for All

F. Checking for understanding-

Area and Perimeter Robot Exercise
Area and Perimeter Multi step word problem Worksheet

G. Closure-

Once the students have been allowed to share what they found, summarize the results of the lesson.

7. Evaluation-
To be completed after test on Friday
