1. Topic-
2. Content-
Students will learn how to count and show money amounts using quarters.
They will learn that four quarters is equal to one dollar, and will
practice counting by 25's to 100. Students will also practice subtracting
6's. |
3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Students will practice subtracting 6's.
2. Students will learn that four quarters is equal to one dollar.
4. Objectives-
1. Given a fact practice sheet that assesses students' knowledge
of subtracting 6's facts, students will complete the worksheet within
2 1/2 minutes with 100% accuracy.
2. Given a worksheet that assesses students' understanding that four
quarters equals one dollar, students will complete the worksheet with
90% accuracy.
5. Procedures/Methods-
A. Introduction-
1. Practice counting backwards by 10's starting at 250.
2. Review temperature graph, time on analog clock, and amount of hundreds,
tens, and ones in the "secret number".
3. Practice subtracting 6's.
4. Introduce new concept that will be learned today. |
B. Development-
1. Show students four quarters and one dollar bill. They will be
asked which hand has more money in it. Students will count the amount
of money in the "quarters hand" by 25's, and will be told that it
is the same amount. They will then count how much money they would
have if they had 2, then 3, then 4, then 5 quarters in one hand and
a dollar in the other, and will be asked which is more each time.
2. Students will be shown a rectangle, and will be asked to tell how
the rectangle could be divided into four equal parts. Students will
be shown that the rectangle could represent the dollar and the four
equal parts could represent the four quarters.
C. Practice-
1. Each child will be given some chips, or "pretend quarters" and
will be asked to put three pretend quarters on the corner of their
desk and will be asked to tell how much money they have.
2. Students will be asked to use their pretend quarters again to put
$1.50 on the corner of their desks. This will be repeated with $0.75,
$2.25, and $1.75.
D. Independent Practice-
1. Students will complete a guided class practice independently
in class, in which they will practice all content reviewed and learned
during this lesson.
2. Students will be given a homework assignment in which they will
practice all content reviewed and learned during this lesson.
E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-
1. Student teacher will pay close attention to the ESE/ELL students
in the classroom to ensure their understanding and participation during
the lesson.
2. Student teacher will ensure that all ELL students understand what
a quarter is in our monetary system and will help them compare our
quarter with their countries quarter "equivalent".
3. During guided practice, student teacher will check all ESE/ELL
students' progress to ensure that they understand the lesson learned
and are completing the assignment correctly. |
F. Checking for understanding-
Students will be asked to share something that they learned in today's
lesson with the class. Correct responses will be rewarded and elaborated
on, and incomplete/incorrect responses will be corrected and turned
into a review/re-teach opportunity.
G. Closure-
Students will be given their homework assignment to complete at
home. |
