1. Topic-
Math Center

2. Content-
Grade 1 - Fraction Sort
Grade 3 - Multiplication and Division Game
Grade 5 - Multiplication Basics

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.To build stronger understanding of fractions through sorting
2. To build a strong knowledge base multiplication through the use of multi-tier sentence structure and building of properties of operations
3.To develop recognition and understanding of division as an unknown factor problem (grade 3 only).

4. Objectives-
1.Students will be able to increase their performance math drill assessment (untimed) by 10%
2. Students will increase their behavioral performance (to IEP objective) by 15%.
3.Post-Lesson, students will take math drill and will try to beat their previous score based on their knowledge gained in the lesson of the day.

5. Materials and Aids-
"Spin A Group" Boards
"Spin a Group" Chart
Fraction Sorts Materials
Scissors/Glue/Colored Paper
Pencils
White Board(s)

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1.Introduce the math lesson for the day by placing the students in the respective areas of the room.
2. Have materials for all activities ready to go prior to beginning the modeling portion of the lesson.
3. Ensure that Grade 1 Student/Adult Support staff member are set prior to leading grade 3/5 lesson.

B. Development-

1. Grade 1 student will be using teching similar to Words their Way sort for this lesson - in this case it is called Fraction Sort. Student will be shown the fractions that have been worked on over the course of the past few weeks and he will be asked to do a "sort" in which he takes multiple forms of the fraction and sorts them into the proper column (see attachment). Ms. Stacey will be assisting and Ms. Stilwell will be checking in to ensure that Nathan is not having any difficulty with the assignment.
2.Grade 3 students will be led by Mr. T. These students will be working on multiplication and division concurrently. The lesson will begin with a triangle activity (see attachment) as a warm up. Next, students will be partnered up by Mr. T for the "Spin a Group" game. A replica of the chart will be on the white board for Mr. T to explain the directions and model examples for students using the board. A minimum of 2 examples will be given in order to ensure comprehension. The lesson will begin with multiplication. When the students fill out their chart, Mr. T will then discuss division with group (again using white board). Once students are able to show comprehension (using question/answer) students will be given game boards and will be able to proceed with the game in partner format.
3.Ms. Stilwell will work with the grade 5 student on the modified multiplication activity. This student's game board will only go from numbers 1-4. Similar modeling will take place as that which Mr. T will be using, only at a slower pace. This student will also not do a multiplication triangle prior to the lesson, but rather an addition drill to begin (untimed). Ms. Stilwell will work on the Spin a Group game with the student as opposed to the independent practice that the 3rd grade group will be using.

C. Practice-

1. Grade 1 student - Fraction Sort
2. Grade 3 - Spin a Group Independent Practice
3. Grade 5 - Spin a Group guided practice

D. Independent Practice-

1. Corrected Sort, verbal assessment
2. Correct Chart, multiplication drill
3. Correct chart

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. Assignment tailored to grade level, verbal assessment
2. n/a - all students at level
3. assignment differentiated in the following ways: game modified to lower number, different chart used, adult support provided throughout assignment.

F. Checking for understanding-

1. Grade 1 - verbal quiz using fraction pie flash cards
2. Grade 3 - Math fact drill post assignment
3. Grade 5 - assessment will be progress made on the Spin a Group chart

G. Closure-

1. Verbal assessment of what students have learned/recap
2. Clean-up

7. Evaluation-
1.Grade 1 - verbal quiz using fraction pie flash cards
2. Grade 3 - Math fact drill post assignment
3. Grade 5 - assessment will be progress made on the Spin a Group chart
