1. Topic-
Multiples

2. Content-
Students will participate in a math game that reinforces the use of multiples of numbers.

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1.Students will memorize the multiples of the numbers 1 through 9.

2. Reinforcement of basic multiplication skills.

4. Objectives-
1.Students will demonstrate the ability to recognize multiples of numbers through playing a game called "Buzz"

2. Students will be supportive of each other and make only positive comments.

5. Materials and Aids-
None

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

How often do we need to know multiples of numbers? If you have $3.00 and Tacos cost 40 cents each, how many can you buy?

B. Development-

Arrange students in a circle facing the center. Choose a number between 1 and 9. The first person starts with "1", the second with "2" and so on. When the group gets to the number selected, that person says "Buzz" and the counting reverses direction. Anytime a multiple of the number, or a number ends in the selected number, the person says "Buzz" and again the counting reverses. When the selected number is repeated as a double, i.e. 33 or 66, then it is a "Buzz, Buzz" and counting continues in the same direction. If during the counting, somebody fails to "Buzz" when appropriate, or "Buzzes" at the wrong time, then they are out and need to take their seat. This continues until you have just one player remaining.

C. Practice-

After the first round is complete, you change the number and complete as many rounds as you want.

Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

Depending on ability, you may allow the use of a multiplication table or calculator if necessary initially and then fade as the students develop a better understanding.

Checking for understanding-

How successful were the students, how quickly did they catch the concept, how high were they able to count, and was there any improvement.

Closure-

1.Ask another question relating to multiples (like the taco question )
2.Thank the students for their effort and time.

Evaluation-
How the group responds to the game and the development of skills in playing the game. Positive comments from students.
