3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. To Produce an Ad campaign based on a mathematical concept or idea.

2. To investigate real world Mathematics

 
4. Objectives-
1. To research a chosen Real World context and its relationship to Mathematics

2. To work in groups of 2 ( or 3) to produce an ad campaign (of at least 6 slides or 2 minutes in length)that promotes Mathematics in the context you have chosen.

3. To develop independent thinking and creative problem solving
 
5. Materials and Aids-
Internet and media resources. School library.
(Personal cameras maybe used in school only with permission from the teacher in charge for a predetermined purpose)
 
6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Introduction video on Ad campaigns

2. Pairs organized and confirmed

3. Brainstorming session and plan formed.
 

B. Development-

1. Teacher in charge clear about process and task briefs
2. Library booked for as many sessions as possible for Internet access.
3. Ad campaigns may be video/ printed/PowerPoint etc. Work submitted on memory stick for marking - or other means if appropriate.
 

C. Practice-

1. 8 lessons to complete task.

2. Starter activity everyday

3. Extension or additional work left if required.
 

D. Independent Practice-

1. End of 2 lessons draft 1 to be handed in to teacher in charge to be approved
2. End of lesson 6 ad campaign ideas should be complete and ready to produce final product.
3. Lesson 8. Work complete and self evaluations done.
 

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1. This is an extension class and most students should be able to work quite independently with minimal support.

 

F. Checking for understanding-

Marking schedule:
Self, Peer and teacher marking. Students will present their ad campaign to the class on Monday 4th July.
Marks will be given for:
Real world topic chosen
Mathematical links clearly made in ad campaign
Creativity
Working together cooperatively ( teacher in charge will grade this)
 

G. Closure-

1. Work presented by each pair to the class with explanations - using the projector or other appropriate means.
2. Work then handed in for marking( in an appropriate format. Peer evaluation carried out after presentation.
Grades awarded.
 
7. Evaluation-
1. Students rate their enjoyment of the assignment.

2. Students show creativity and originality in their approaches to the task
