hour (unit of time = to 60 min)
half-hour (unit of time = to 30 min)
minute hand (longer hand on an analog clock)
hour hand (shorter hand on an analog clock)

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Read analog and digital clocks
2. Write the time down
3. Draw hands on clocks to show the time

4. Objectives-
Introduce telling time to the hour and half-hour

5. Materials and Aids-
Demonstration clock
mini-clocks for each student
white board
markers
paper
pencil
math packet
teacher manual

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

1. Math Center (days in school, date)
2. Introduce the analog clock

B. Development-

1. Have students point out the clock(s) in the room. Watches: analog or digital?
2. Identify and match vocab with the analog clock
3. Explain how to write time: hour comes first: minutes after
4. Demonstrate how to draw the minute & hour hand on a clock

C. Practice-

1. Students will go back to their desk with a mini-clock and get out their white boards
2. I will tell the students a time and they will model the time on their mini-clocks
3. After that, students will write on their board the time that I model for them

D. Independent Practice-

Students will complete pages 435, 436 on their own.

F. Checking for understanding-

I will continue to ask students if they have questions. I will walk around and monitor their independent practice.

G. Closure-

We will review the new vocab that the students learned. I will then ask them to tell me what time it is when we are done. I will tie in that telling time is important for our daily life (i.e. being to school on time, going to the doctor or other appointments, going to bed. . .)
