Goals: Aims/Outcomes

1.Be able to decide whether the outcome of a game is fair or not
2.Develop a sample space from a pair of dice.



Objectives

1.Work in pairs effectively
2.Understand how to apply the game to their new skills



Materials and Aids


Procedures/Methods

A. Introduction
1.Students can pick a partner to sit with for their game.
2.For five minutes they may student with their partner their vocabulary.



B. Development
1.We will go over the directions for the dice game.
2.Explain that the students need to use what they learned prior to
this day, to create a sample space and make predictions.



C. Practice
1. In pairs, they will roll two die at a time. After they roll they
will find the difference between the two numbers. If it is an even
number,the even student gets a point, if it is an odd the other student
gets the point.
2.They will do this 20 times. The student with the most points wins.
Then repeat the game and see what this outcome is. 


D. Independent Practice
1.They will have an activity sheet to fill in as they go. It will
show their sample space, predictions,outcomes and their reflections.
2.Also on their sheet they will find the differences of all the possible
outcomes and decide whether it is a fair game or not.
3.Turn in for assessing. 


E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)
1.Having the activity sheet with fill in the blank instructions
helps students that need guidance.
2.Visual and verbal directions will be given.
3.Partner selection can be modified. 


G. Closure
At the end we will discuss and reflect on how the game went and
what the students have decided.
