1. Topic-
Probability
Section 13.1 and 13.3

2. Content-
OUTCOME: a possible result of an experiment.
EVENT:a collection of outcomes.
FAVORABLE OUTCOMES: desired outcome.
ProbabilityABILITY: ratio of the number of favorable outcomes to the number of possible outcomes.
COMPLEMENTARY EVENTS: two events having no outcomes in common and if together they contain all the possible outcomes.
INDEPENDENT EVENTS: two events are independent if the occurrence of one event does not affect the likelihood that the other event will occur.

3. Goals: Aims/Outcomes-
1. Define outcome and favorable outcome.
2. Be able to find a probability.
3. Know the difference between probability and independent probability.

4. Objectives-
1. Class is engaged and taking adequate notes. (Props: *Zoom-That answer took flight & *Woo Woo-Right on Track and Cold Call)
2. Students can respond individually and as a group.
3. Students can find and describe Probability.

5. Materials and Aids-
13.1 and 13.3 packet
Paper & Writing instrument

6. Procedures/Methods-

A. Introduction-

THE HOOK: What is the probability of having your M&M drawn?
1. What is probability?
(entertain 1-2 responses) *Handout packets
2. 13.1 Choose readers using cold call. VOCAB
3. Give and get 2-4 examples of Probability. EX: gender, eye color, outfit, lottery, scrabble letter, M&M, games

B. Development-

1.Discuss Probability 1/2(boy/girl)& EX 1 in Packet (COLD CALL)
2.Discuss EX 2 in packet (CC)
3.Discuss EX 3 in packet (CC)
IF TIME ALLOWS
4.Discuss tree setup with student notebooks. (NT P292)
5.Discuss Examples 1 in packet for 13.3

C. Practice-

1.Use dice to discuss Probability
(specific #, #<>#)
2.Use names-Describe Probability and reveal letter. Student chooses a letter and then we choose 2-3 names.
3.Include Complementary events by summing ratios to = 1. Ex: vowels/consonents or #<4 / #>4.

D. Independent Practice-

1.Quiz 1 AB P157 1-4
2.TIME?: Quiz 1 AB P157 5/6.

E. Accommodations (Differentiated Instruction)-

1.NO OPT OUT
2. Add another option to the notebook tree

F. Checking for understanding-

Class responses to the original question: What is the Probability your name will be drawn when everyone submits 1 entry. Class? One grade level? School? Write as a ratio, decimal and percent.

G. Closure-

1.Call and Response to vocab
2.HW complete Challenge Practice 13.1 1-10 and 13.3 1-5
